The Problem with Naive Coordinate Randomizers

When most developers or websites create a "random location picker," they take a simple approach: they generate a random number between -90° and +90° for latitude, and a random number between -180° and +180° for longitude.

While this seems intuitive, it is mathematically deeply flawed. On a spherical globe, lines of longitude converge at the poles. A linear latitude selection bunches points densely around the North and South Poles, causing over 400% statistical over-sampling in icy arctic regions like Greenland and Antarctica, while drastically under-sampling the Equator, Africa, South America, and Southeast Asia.
